Oxford to Rushville, Indiana
One of the joys of riding is the people who we meet along the way. We cycled 44 miles today to Rushville Indiana. It's always exciting to cross into a new state and today we gained an hour as we entered into central time. Steven and I set out and got wet within a couple of miles. We sought shelter under a church portico. We spent most of the day on lightly traffic roads amongst corn fields. 10 miles short of lunch we stopped at a farm stand. The proprietor and his partner were very friendly and they gave us peaches. We rode past a Brookville Lake. A lot of people rent house boats and vacation on the lake and there are trails and camping in the town Quakerville. We lunch at a local place in Connorsville. A man on the street and his family told us that this town in the 1930 was a bustling part of the automobile industry. He told us that the towns charter prohibits debt and that every citizen got a refund of $125. Sounds like a smart plan for this country! Many miles on country roads brought us to a conversation with a farmer. He was explaining how many acres he farms and the sizes of some of the surrounding farms. He said that some farms spread over a mile in each direction. We had to work on this ride with a headwinds and 1747 feet of climbing. I'm not complaining but boy it would be nice to have a tailwind!

Hi jodi, I love this post. I felt like I was in the Midwest reading it. It brought back memories of riding RAGBRAI a few years ago. The people are so friendly and down to earth. The photos of the old cars. Judy
ReplyDeleteLike the covered bridge. Cousin you are certainly seeing a lot of the local flavors. Have you seen any Amish?
