Washington, Mo to Hermann 100+ degrees

This is the third day in a row of oppressive heat in Missouri. The locals tell me how unusual it is. I do believe that. We cut our ride down to 36 miles for the day and 30 of it was on the Katy trail and that afforded us stretches of shade and a reprieve from the head winds occasional the road opened up to spectacular views of the Missouri River and farm land. At 10 miles in we expected to eat breakfast at the caboose cafe. It was not open but the owner gave us Steve and I an orange and a banana. At 30 miles we got off of the trail and and traveled across the river into Hermann. This is a beautiful town of 2500 people that is the capital of Missouri's wine making and brewing sector. It's usually bustling with tourists, not today, I wonder if it's the heat. Tonight we are being hosted by Warm Showers members Kiley and Lee. We meet such nice people along the way.
