Ennis Montana to Dillon, Montana 73 miles

How might you feel? Your thrill played out in the first 15 miles. The cycling day started with a 1950 foot climb over twelve miles. I gave a fist pump when I made it to the top of the pass. I enjoyed a 3 mile exhilarating down hill to Virginia City, a historic western town preserved  We met Joshua there He was travelling the other way. He joined us for pancakes. Take a look at his home made panniers constructed by him from Tidy Cat litter boxes. Waterproof and can double as a seat in a campground. So only 15 miles in and all the days fun was over. Yes there was more hill to go down but a mile from breakfast my pedal came off. By luck I got it back on and tightened it up, whew!  The rest down hill was compromised by a stiff head wind. So disappointing with 55 plus miles to go. The valley wasn't as pretty as other places and riding became a chore. Imagine sitting on a bike seat for over 6hrs and 20 minutes pushing against the wind.
Ouch is tomorrow could be more difficult with two mountain passes, over 3500' of climbing, smoke from forest fires. Maybe the forest fires will keep the mosquitoes away. Tomorrow I will see what I'm made of.
Last night we stayed at a warm showers host in Ennis, Rachel and Michael were supurb hosts and wonderful kind people. I will always remember their generosity.

  1. Hi Jodi, What a challenging day! I am impressed by your perseverance. It is really wonderful that so many people have welcomed you into their homes. If you were on a supported tour, you would not have had these experiences.
