Missoula to Lolo Campground 40 miles

 Hi,

Last night we stayed with a delightful warm showers host, Edith who is an Octogenarian and a very accomplished person and outdoors women. It’s such a nice feeling to be invited into a home of a friend, a friend who connected through the love of bike touring. I’ve gotten comfortable accepting with grace these invitations. What a nice world. When I was married we accepted a handful of travelers at the condo and it was a nice experience that I still remember in some detail. I don’t live on a main tour route so maybe I’ll get a few visits.

Today started with oatmeal and coffee at Edith’s and after a nice chat Steven and I visited the headquarters of the Adventure Cycle Association. We signed the guest book, Steven bought maps of the Louis and Clark routes and I purchased the GPX files for my bike computer. We each bought a water bottle. Best of all we had our photos taken and now we along with hundreds of other cross country bike travelers adorn their walls. We even found John Santos photo from 10 days ago, he finished two days ago. Old touring bikes adorned the walls. Missoula is a beautiful city, I feel that I could live there and be happy. There seems to be something for everybody. There are many bike lanes, culture, old and new sections, lots of outdoor activities and Montana University. We had our second breakfast downtown and then rode 40 miles up towards Lolo pass a beautiful windy, very narrow road flanked by rolling mountains of evergreens and a narrow river. I think that this is where “A river runs through it was filmed. Tonight we are staying a Lolo campground 6.5 miles to the summit and after that there is a storied very long gentle downhill that carries us for about 80 miles. I don’t want to be skeptical but some of the headwinds that we get squash enjoyment of downhills. I remain optimistic!
