Walden, Co to Saratoga, Wyoming
69 miles today to Saratoga. We weren't sure that we could make it and had an idea to stop at 51 at Riverside. Instead I had the best cheese burger. That's what the man says it was. Nice little town that a lot of outdoors people congregate at. Fisherman, Motorbike trail riders, cross country cyclists and long distance hikers. I talked quite a bit to the long bearded hamburger chef and a friend of his. That's the best stuff. On our way out we saw two touring cyclists coming in from the east. If we only had stayed an extra 5 minutes we would have gotten to chat with them. We haven't seen or talked to cross country folks at all. Our chances are much better now that we are on the traditional ACA route. The smart ones will be traveling West to East! The high plateau out of Colorado and into Wyoming was spectacularly beautiful. I loved the softer contours of the mountains covered in green. The views were wide and long and it was so rural. It was a while before some gates to enormous ranches. We had a bit of a trail wind too for the first half. When we turned due north into Riverside the going got tough. The winds feel different and powerful here. One gust slowed me from about 15 to 6 mph. We are in Saratoga Springs now. Not my kind of town. There are a lot of tourists here. I had little interest in feeling a hot spring on a 90 degree plus day. We are staying at a warm showers tonight, part of St Bartholomew's church.
