West Yellowstone to Ennis Montana 75 miles

A beautiful ride again. We spent a good part of this 75 miles ride cycling around the Madison River. This is the first day the we descended more than climbed. For half of the day we had a headwind. For the first part of the day we rode along a lake in a mountain setting. The lake was created by damming the Madison River. We passed some informational signs mentioning that we had entered into a seismic zone and that Earthquake Lake was ahead of us. A few miles later in a beautiful mountains area with pine trees we were riding past Earthquake Lake. We cycled up to the interpretive center and looked at the tremendous part of a mountain that collapsed during an earthquake in 1959. Some houses upstream up the lake we're underwater soon after. Several campers were crushed by the rubble. We watched a movie at the center about it. It often occurs to me how small we are on our earth. We left that area after an hour or so and I read a sign that takes about the widest mountain pass and a low one where the scientists really don't know which way the water flows.
75 miles not too bad. We have two difficult days coming up with a lot of climbing. Details to come.
